In July 2011 A2SEA acquired a 29% share interest in the Danish cable installation company CT Offshore. A2SEA has now decided to increase their shareholding in the company to 67%. The remaining 33% of the shares are still owned by CT Offshore’s founder and CEO, Paw Cortes: “A2SEA is the perfect partner for us in respect of strengthening the company for further growth.” CT Offshore will stay at its present Odense location and Paw will continue as CEO. Technip USA, Inc. has contracted Lankhorst Ropes to manufacture the polyester mooring ropes for the Lucius truss spar hull for the US Gulf of Mexico. Chris Johnson, sales director, Lankhorst Ropes Offshore Division, said, “We are delighted to be working with Technip again. The Lucius contract is testimony to Lankhorst’s well proven, high quality Gama 98 product which is already installed on three Gulf of Mexico floating production facilities since 2008.” Rope production will start this month. Pasi Lehtonen has been appointed as senior vice president of Cargotec’s Offshore business segment, effective from the beginning of January. “Our competence centres for advanced load-handling in Kristiansand, Norway, and for winches in Singapore, offer their services for our global customers”, says Olli Isotalo, executive vice president, Marine. “Pasi Lehtonen will bring vast general management experience, which will help speed up our growth in the offshore industry.” Read the rest of this entry »

Wilton Engineering Services Limited (WESL) announces the award of a significant UK North Sea contract with ConocoPhillips. The award to fabricate the Long Term Compression (LTC) module for the Britannia field will create up to 100 new jobs with a further 150 sub-contract jobs taking the total to 250 jobs for Teesside. Britannia is a gas condensate field situated around 130 miles (210 km), north-east of Aberdeen. The original main platform was built by the Wilton Group in 1995. Read the rest of this entry »

IHC Offshore Systems, part of IHC Merwede, has been awarded a rental contract for the Noise Mitigation System NMS-6900. Dutch offshore contractor Seaway Heavy Lifting will operate the NMS-6900 during the installation of 30 monopile foundations for the Riffgat offshore wind farm off the north-west coast of Germany. The contract was signed by Mr W. van der Velde (l), chief technical officer of Seaway Heavy Lifting, and Mr A.A. Kromhout (r), managing director of IHC Offshore Systems. Read the rest of this entry »

Subsea 7 announced today the award of a SURF contract valued at approximately USD 60 million from Santos Limited on the Fletcher-Finucane Development offshore Western Australia. The contract scope includes the project management, engineering and installation of approximately 55 km of flexible flowlines and over 60 km of umbilicals, associated structures to connect the wells to the existing Exeter Mutineer facilities, pre-commissioning activities and other associated services. Kongsberg Maritime announces that it will lead a new research project called ‘Situation Awareness and Decision Support Tools for demanding marine operations’ (SITAWARE), which kicks-off on 2 February 2012. The project is part-funded by the Norwegian Research Council. As part of an ongoing commitment to carbon fibre processing, Metyx Composites invested in a new MAX 5 carbon reinforcement production line. This is the most recent in a series of investments planned for 2012 at the Metyx headquarters in Istanbul, Turkey and at its new Manisa, Turkey facility. The company plans to offer a new generation of products and services to complement its portfolio, and further target the automotive and wind energy industries, and prepreg producers. Caley Ocean Systems has supplied two, large capacity, 2,500t turntables to Global Marine Systems Ltd (GMSL) to handle deployment of non-coilable cables from their vessel CS Sovereign. Caley has worked closely with GMSL, and their naval architects, to design the two turntables such that they can be built within the existing onboard cable tanks. CS Sovereign is a multi-role vessel capable of undertaking cable maintenance and installation projects for all types of submarine cable systems. Read the rest of this entry »

In the last quarter of 2011 Cargotec secured contracts for MacGregor bulk handling systems for installation onboard four offshore support vessels newbuildings belonging to two different owners. one in the UAE (two vessels) and the other in Spain (two vessels). “For the owners, it was important that the vessels were fitted with simple and well proven bulk handling technology, with a solid track record”, says Pankaj Thakker, Cargotec sales manager, Marine Selfunloaders.
