Detect and Prevent Leaks on Ships

In response to elevated safety and environmental regulations on ships, Allweiler AG, a Colfax business unit, has begun equipping its ‘SNS’ series of screw pumps with the optional ‘Allseal’ intelligent leak-detection and -collection system. Back at Base

Swedish Navy Corvettes HMS Stockholm and HMS Malmö together with support vessel HMS Trossö are now back in Karlskrona.

“Having left Djibouti on 25 September the journey has gone according to plan,” said Naval base project manager William Nordström who had overall responsibility for the transport. New Discovery Offshore Angola

The well was drilled to a total depth of 2,830 metres and encountered oil in sands of Miocene age with excellent reservoir characteristics. During production tests, the well produced oil at rates in excess of 6500 barrels of oil per day. The drilling operation was carried out in water depths of 500 metres.

Four exploration wells have been drilled on the block, three of these (Sangos, N’Goma and Cabaça Norte) resulted in discoveries. The Cabaça Norte well results exceeded pre-drill expectations, and it has the potential to become the largest find in Block 15/06 to date.
Eni has a 35% working interest and is the operator of Block 15/06, with Sonangol E&P the concessionaire. Other partners are Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção (15%), SSI Fifteen Limited (20%), Total (15%), Falcon Oil Holding Angola SA (5%), Petrobras International B.V. (5%) and StatoilHydro (5%).

New DP Vessel

Houlder Ltd in the UK says that, in a move away from traditional floating production, Vampire Production Ltd has engaged Houlder to design a vessel to work on new and marginal oil fields.

Unlike traditional FPSOs, the vessel is designed for short term as well as long term contracts, with the ability to transit from site to site and to port on a regular basis.

Supplying NURC With Gliders

After extensive technical review, Teledyne Webb Research has been awarded a contract to supply the NATO Undersea Research Centre (NURC) in La Spezia (Italy) with Slocum Gliders. Teledyne Webb has already delivered a vehicle simulator for training purposes, and has received a delivery order for four Slocum gliders. The contract includes an option for up to three additional systems over a three-month period.

The following StatoilHydro and ConocoPhillips operated platforms have online Oil in Water monitors from ProAnalysis installed: Statfjord C, Snorre B, Ekofisk 2/4 J, Eldfisk B, Veslefrikk, Gullfaks A, B and C.

USCG Cutter Found by ICG

Sixty-seven years after being torpedoed by a German U-boat in January 1942, the final resting place of the Treasury Class US Coast Guard Cutter Alexander Hamilton WPG-34 was finally identified in early September 2009 during an Icelandic Coast Guard operation utilising a Gavia AUV. The Alexander Hamilton became the first US loss in the Atlantic after the Pearl Harbour attacks
