Oil and gas estimated at between three and 19 million barrels of oil equivalent have been found by Statoil roughly three kilometres east of the Gundrun field in the North Sea.The find was made in the Brynhild prospect where one exploration well was drilled with one technical sidetrack.

Royal Boskalis Westminster has been awarded a contract for the capital and maintenance dredging of the Soyo LNG port in Angola. The total contract value is approximately € 155 million in which Boskalis has a 50% share. The contract was awarded by Angola LNG Ltd. Work is set to commence in 2010 and capital dredging is set to be completed by mid 2011. Included in the contract is an optional maintenance contract running from early 2012 until early 2014.

Seadrill’s majority owned subsidiary Scorpion Offshore Ltd. has received a binding Letter of Agreement for a two well firm plus two optional wells contract for Offshore Vigilant in Venezuela with Cardon IV S.A. Firm contract duration is estimated to 240 days with an option for extension of approximately 240 further days. Contract value for the firm period is approximately US$37.2 million. The construction of the Nord Stream Pipeline continued on schedule over the summer months. In July and August, the two pipe strings constructed near the German and Russian landfall were pulled ashore.Since June 28, the Castoro Dieci has been anchored about 1 kilometre from the landing point, where it has been welding 12-meter-long pipes together to form the pipeline strings. Although vast in size, the market revolves around a few projects - one of these being the Kashagan field development. STX Norway Offshore has through its subsidiary STX Brazil Offshore entered into two new contracts for Norskan Offshore for the building of two Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2012 and 2013. These vessels are the first of the new AH 11 design from STX Norway Offshore Design in Ålesund, designed with special focus on deep water operations. Read the rest of this entry »

Heerema Vlissingen, one of the three production locations of Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG), has been awarded the EPC contract of a minimum facilities platform for the Breagh A Development. This is the second contract this year to be awarded by RWE Dea UK to Heerema Vlissingen, following a contract earlier this year for a minimum facilities platform for the Clipper South Development. According to a report commissioned by subsea training provider The Underwater Centre in Fort William, more than 2,200 commercial divers will be needed to help build and develop Europe’s offshore wind sector as it rapidly expands over the next six years. Autoship Systems Corporation (ASC) has announced the installation of its Autoload onboard stability software on Gjøa, one of the largest projects in the North Sea today. Gjøa’s recoverable reserves are approximately 82 million barrels of oil and condensate and roughly 40 billion standard cubic metres of gas. Gjøa is the first floating platform to get its electricity from the mainland. This will mean a yearly reduction in emissions to the environment of 250,000 t of carbon dioxide.
