3D EM Survey Offshore Greenland

Boa Galatea

Electromagnetic Geoservices ASA (EMGS) has been awarded a contract worth about USD 4 million by the Cairn Energy group through its subsidiary Capricorn and its joint venture partner Nunaoil, to perform a 3D electromagnetic (EM) survey in the Disko West area offshore Greenland. The survey is due to start around 25 August and will be performed using the newly launched, purpose-built 3D EM vessel BOA Galatea. Mighty Servant 3

The fully renewed and reinstated Mighty Servant 3 has rejoined the fleet of Dockwise. The vessel has been under repair at the Grand Bahama Shipyard since January, 2008. The entire vessel has been rebuilt beginning with the steel hull. New machinery, electrical systems and equipment have been installed to the latest standards and designs, using the original functionality and foot print. “This is a reinstatement project in a magnitude that has never been performed before - no one has ever taken a vessel submerged in fifty meters of seawater for five months and brought her back to service. Jacket Load-Out

Heerema Vlissingen, one of the fabrication facilities of Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) has successfully completed the EPC contract for the construction of a jacket and piles for the fourth platform on Nexen’s Buzzard oilfield in the UK North Sea. On 6 August 2009 the 3,500t jacket which measures 42 x 42 x 124m together with eight 96-inch piles with a total weight of 2,200t were loaded on a barge from Heerema Vlissingen’s construction quay for transportation to Nexen’s Buzzard oilfield some thirty miles north-east of Peterhead in Scotland. Dockwise has successfully performed the USD 33 million complete transport and float-over installation of 19,000t MDPP offshore production platform for CPOC located at the JDA Block B-17, C-19 and B-17-01. Dockwise is the main contractor for CPOC, the operator. Preparation for the project included custom-design and fabrication of Leg Mating Units (LMUs) and Deck Support Units (DSUs), mating and mooring analyses and synchronization of transport, structural, marine and installation engineering expertise. Record Net Profit for Fairstar

Fairstar Heavy Transport

Fairstar (FAIR) released its financial results after the close of trading on the Oslo Stock Exchange on 5 August 2009.  The company has continued to increase revenue and profitability while reducing debt. The company’s second semi-submersible heavy transport vessel Fjell left Malta in early May and joined her sister-ship Fjord in the market to produce combined profits in the 2009 second quarter of USD 5.4 million. Naming Ceremony Hos Iron Horse

On Friday, 31 July 2009 the naming and delivery of the Hos Iron Horse took place at the Wilhelminakade in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. IHC Merwede Offshore & Marine built the vessel in Hardinxveld-Giessendam for Hornbeck Offshore Services. Mrs. Joan Hornbeck performed the naming ceremony. IHC Merwede Offshore & Marine won the order to design and build the new Multi-Purpose Offshore Support Vessel for Hornbeck Offshore Services in April 2007.

Jumbo Javelin

One of Jumbo Offshore’s heavy lift & installation vessels, the DP2-ship Jumbo Javelin, is preparing to deliver installation services for offshore wind farms. It will be able to ship and install Transition Pieces (TP’s) for wind turbines.The vessel will be able to carry nine TP’s at a time, each with a weight of approximately 285 t. All the TP’s can be stowed vertically in the hold of the vessel and transported to the offshore location site. There, the Jumbo Javelin positions itself on DP next to the monopile of the wind turbine foundation to lift the TP from the hold, onto the monopile and adjust it to required horizontal level. The leveled TP is then fixed to the monopile by pumping grout in the annulus between the pile and the Transition Piece. Read the rest of this entry »

On 15 July 2009 Jack-Up Barge B.V. celebrated a major milestone in the company’s history as its newbuild  monohull Jack-Up platform JB-114 completed the installation of the first ever German offshore wind turbine on her maiden voyage. After mobilization in Eemshaven, the Netherlands, the JB-114 was towed to the offshore location, about 45 km north of the island Borkum in the North Sea. Within 36 hours after her arrival she installed the tower, turbine and rotorblades of the first wind turbine in the Alpha Ventus wind farm. Read the rest of this entry »

Successful Subsea Installation

On June 20, Technip, supported by Jumbo Offshore, completed the installation of four subsea structures, including two module support frames, in the White Rose oilfield, offshore Newfoundland for the North Amethyst project. The foundations were lowered to the Grand Banks seabed at approximately 120m depth and will support subsea manifolds and flowlines that are part of a multiple well tie-back.
