hmc-mh-02_webHeerema Marine Contractors (HMC) announced the signing of a letter of intent with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., Korea (DSME), for the building of a new Deep Water Construction Vessel. Jan Pieter Klaver, Chief Executive Officer of HMC: “With this new Deep Water Construction Vessel, HMC will reinforce its unique position in the deepwater pipelay market.” The newbuild represents an investment of USD 600-700 million. loc400_200x200Huisman’s land drilling rig, the LOC 400, operated by the Northern Dutch Drilling Company (NDDC) has recently started its second geothermal drilling project. This time in the city of The Hague, The Netherlands. The compact and containerised unit will be used for the drilling scope of the project which ultimately will provide 4,000 homes and 20,000 square feet of office space with hot water for heating purposes and hot tap water. The project is a collaboration (under the name of Aardwarmte Den Haag) of the city of The Hague, energy companies Eneco and E.ON Benelux and housing corporations Staedion, Vestia and Haag Wonen. dwfloat_webAfter nearly two years of engineering, procurement, and project preparations, Dockwise has completed the first of two float-overs for the Vyborg Project in Korea. These pieces were constructed in locations more than 27,000 km apart and the Dockwise vessel the Black Marlin was used to successfully load one of the two topsides for transport to the float-over location Korea, to be joined with a hull that was transported from Vyborg, Russia to Korea by the Talisman. Economic Affairs Minister Van der Hoeven has granted funding of €19.5 million for the Far and Large Offshore Wind (FLOW) innovation project. The subsidy matches the same level of funding previously announced by the companies in the FLOW consortium. The budget will be spent on the first phase of the FLOW project. orbit_webOrbit Technologies Ltd. has announced a follow up order for its marine VSAT antenna systems from the Swiss company NewSat Communications S.A. Total orders for the year are in excess of USD 2 million dollars. The current order - Orbit’s AL-7108 system - caps four years of Orbit systems sales to NewSat, totaling more than USD 3 million.  Continuing orders are expected in 2010. ships_webDuring three days of extensive testing, the advanced capability of Consilium’s oil spill radar to detect oil slicks has been successfully verified. The sea trials were part of an exercise in order to certify satisfactory safety and efficiency in oil spill response operations. The operation, the largest and most comprehensive annual oil spill response exercise in Europe, was conducted by the Norwegian Clean Seas Association For Operating Companies (NOFO) from  8 to 10 June 2010. On 30 June 2010 the first course participants were awarded their Chamber of Commerce certificates for this specialist training. This further training course is only open to staff who have the appropriate technical qualifications, several years of practical experience and a very good level of English.
