During three days of extensive testing, the advanced capability of Consilium’s oil spill radar to detect oil slicks has been successfully verified. The sea trials were part of an exercise in order to certify satisfactory safety and efficiency in oil spill response operations. The operation, the largest and most comprehensive annual oil spill response exercise in Europe, was conducted by the Norwegian Clean Seas Association For Operating Companies (NOFO) from 8 to 10 June 2010. Marine Aluminium AS and TTS Energy are forming the Uptime Alliance, a technology and marketing collaboration that will contribute to increased efficiency and safety for offshore vessels and marine installations. The alliance currently offers two unique systems: the Uptime Helideck - the world’s only motion compensated helideck - and the Uptime Gangway. The dedicated website will go live 1 July 2010. (more…)

BP today announced that work has begun to drill a relief well to intercept and isolate the oil well that is spilling oil in the US Gulf of Mexico. The drilling began on Sunday 2 May. The new well, in 5,000 feet of water, is planned to intercept the existing well around 13,000 feet below the seabed and permanently seal it. Following recent EASA (European Aviation Safety Authorities) approval of the company’s helicopter suit, Viking has become one of only a few suppliers in the world able to offer a fully ETSO-approved system comprising a transportation suit and lifejacket. All EASA members travelling by helicopter in hostile sea areas must have personal protective equipment that complies with the new regulations. (more…)
