hmc-mh-02_webHeerema Marine Contractors (HMC) announced the signing of a letter of intent with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., Korea (DSME), for the building of a new Deep Water Construction Vessel. Jan Pieter Klaver, Chief Executive Officer of HMC: “With this new Deep Water Construction Vessel, HMC will reinforce its unique position in the deepwater pipelay market.” The newbuild represents an investment of USD 600-700 million.   • loc400_200x200Huisman’s land drilling rig, the LOC 400, operated by the Northern Dutch Drilling Company (NDDC) has recently started its second geothermal drilling project. This time in the city of The Hague, The Netherlands. The compact and containerised unit will be used for the drilling scope of the project which ultimately will provide 4,000 homes and 20,000 square feet of office space with hot water for heating purposes and hot tap water. The project is a collaboration (under the name of Aardwarmte Den Haag) of the city of The Hague, energy companies Eneco and E.ON Benelux and housing corporations Staedion, Vestia and Haag Wonen.   • Jumbo Jubilee

    On Saturday 22 August 2009, a new tandem heavy lift record was set by Jumbo Jubilee. During the crane tests of Jumbo’s latest J-class vessel at the Huisman yard in Schiedam, a ballasted pontoon was lifted out of the water in tandem by the two 900t mast cranes. A load of 1,980 t, 10% on top of the combined safe working load (SWL) of the cranes, was required to obtain a Lloyds Certificate of Compliance. During the test it appeared that the testload had a record breaking weight of 1,992 t: the heaviest load ever lifted by a heavy lift transport ship. (more…)

    Huisman has expanded its heavy lifting product range with a customized range of Wind Turbine Installation Cranes. Building on the successful operation of the existing Huisman heavy lifting equipment for the installation of wind turbines and the increasing demand for customized equipment by the fast growing market for renewables, the company has now designed a range of tailor-made cranes that will be able to efficiently install current turbines, as well as future turbines.   • Naming Ceremony Hos Iron Horse

    Hos Iron Horse

    On Friday, 31 July 2009 the naming and delivery of the Hos Iron Horse took place at the Wilhelminakade in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. IHC Merwede Offshore & Marine built the vessel in Hardinxveld-Giessendam for Hornbeck Offshore Services. Mrs. Joan Hornbeck performed the naming ceremony. IHC Merwede Offshore & Marine won the order to design and build the new Multi-Purpose Offshore Support Vessel for Hornbeck Offshore Services in April 2007.
